Formentera is a beautiful island located in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a small municipality that, like Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza is part of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. It has a population of almost 13,000 inhabitants and is widely recognized for its beautiful beaches of turquoise waters and white sands.

Undoubtedly, you can not miss the opportunity to visit its idyllic beaches and impressive lighthouses. In few places you can feel a level of calm and relaxation as high as you will feel in Formentera. In this article you will learn about the best places to sleep in Formentera as well as some recommended hotels.

Best places to stay in Formentera

Formentera is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain and the entire continent, as it is home to some of the best beaches in the country, but it is certainly not a cheap island. Mind you, that’s not to say that it’s not accessible to people on a budget. Being a small island, it doesn’t really have “bad areas” to stay.

If you travel in summer it is recommended to book at least 6 months in advance so you don’t run out of room. Although the island has a wide range of hotels, it is small and therefore the accommodations are sold out at lightning speed. Below is a list of the 8 best places to stay in Formentera, although many people prefer to stay in the areas of Sant Francesc Xavier, Sant Ferran, Es Pujol and Playa de Es Migjorn.

Es Pujols

It is the most important area where to sleep in Formentera. It is located to the northwest of the island and most of the accommodations are located here. This area is the one that receives more visitors, reason why the hotels are usually the most expensive. All of them offer an infinity of restaurants, locals and bars with a familiar, quiet and lively atmosphere.

On the other hand, Es Pujols is home to one of the most acclaimed beaches on the island. This is the reason why many people choose to stay in this area. The beach has crystal clear waters and its sand is of a beautiful golden color. It has a length of approximately 600 meters, a width of 30 meters and has all the services. It is the tourist heart of the island and an excellent place to move without problem to other beaches or coves with fewer people.

Hotel Levante

One of the recommended hotels where to sleep in Formentera is the Hotel Levante, located 250 meters from the beach of Es Pujols. Its facilities offer free Wi-Fi, garden, bar, solarium terrace and a seasonal outdoor pool. It is a 3-star hotel whose reception is open 24 hours and its tour desk provides valuable information to its guests.

The air-conditioned rooms have a safe, desk, flat-screen TV and private bathroom with shower. Some rooms have a balcony overlooking the pool. A delicious buffet breakfast with gluten-free options is served daily. The double room costs 242€ and booking users have given it a 9.3.

Migjorn Beach

Located on the south side of the island, this 6-kilometer long beach is one of the most popular places to sleep in Formentera. Its prices are cheaper than those of Es Pujols and being a virgin beach, with fine sand and turquoise waters, it becomes an oasis of peace.

In this area there are hundreds of hotels, villas, apartments, bars, nightclubs, beach clubs and beach bars perfect for watching the sunsets while enjoying a refreshing drink.
