Porto is one of the most populated cities in Portugal, just behind Lisbon. It has a population of 220,000 inhabitants and like many ancient cities, it has an incredible historical heritage. However, in recent decades it has been modernizing.

Its historic center was declared a World Heritage Site in 1996. The main attractions of Porto are the Ponte Dom Luís I, the Cathedral of Porto, the Stazione di São Bento and the Torre dos Clérigos. In this article you will learn about the best areas and hotels to stay in Porto.

Best neighborhoods to stay in Porto

Porto is a city with a huge amount of accommodations and different neighborhood options for a great vacation. The metropolis is small and can be toured in two or three days, and although it has a large number of options where to stay, it is always a good option to opt for a centrally located hotel to easily reach its most touristic places.

You must remember that Porto is a very popular destination and is visited by thousands of tourists at any time of the year, for this reason, if you want to find affordable accommodation, you should book in advance. Another aspect to take into account is the location.

Accommodation in the central part of Porto tends to be the most expensive. A good alternative to the center is the Bolhao neighborhood. Other cheap areas to spend the night in Porto are in the neighborhoods of Vila Nova de Gaia and Boavista, very nice areas close to the center.

However, the whole city has an excellent public transport service, which is why staying in a neighborhood a little away from the historic center can be profitable and would not represent any problem for your comfort and enjoyment.
